As wonderful as the weather has been this past week, RESIST the temptation to plant just yet. As a rule of thumb you can start planting bushes and annuals after April 15th. The weather is so crazy in March and the first of April as evidenced last week.
What you can do right now is PREPARE. Prepare your yard by weeding your beds. With this warm weather the weeds are everywhere. If you haven't already, you can lay mulch or needles in the beds that will help cut down on the weeds and hold moisture in the soil. TRIM. You can trim overgrown bushes and small trees, but don't trim anything that hasn't bloomed. The best time to trim flowering bushes is AFTER they bloom. Otherwise, you'll cut into next year's blossoms.
After April 15th, you should be good to freshen up your yard with any new bushes and annuals.
